Emma Turns 3!!!

My baby turned 3 yesterday! We had a birthday party today with her cousins and spent the afternoon playing with water in grandma's backyard. It was a gorgeous day, after a week in the high 90s it was only about 85 or so.

I bought this sprinkler toy, which wasn't as exciting as I hoped but the kids still had fun running in the water. In the pictures are Kaylie, Emma, Uncle Joe, and cousins Cole and Ethan.

I just loved this picture of Kaylie. There is always something in her mouth.

This was Emma's favorite present, she wouldn't even look at anything else until we brought out...

..the tricycle.

She immediately went with Dad and Ethan to try it out.

And of course the cake. She decorated it herself and was not content with just 3 candles.

Bert and Emma actually share a birthday. Last night we left the kids with a sitter and went out for a yummy steak dinner with some good friends and had a fantastic time!

Dinner and the Dentist

So this picture really doesn't capture the silliness of the moment. While I was fixing Emma lunch yesterday she proceeded to fix her own lunch with her toy microwave. It consisted of a plastic croissant and grape soda. And instead of eating the lunch her mom prepared, she sat and blew on her croissant until it was cool enough to "eat" and sipped at her toy can of grape soda. I don't think she touched a thing I gave her.

Today Emma went to the dentist for the first time! And she did really well! She watched them take pictures of my teeth, "count" and clean my teeth, and she got to practice brushing a giant set of teeth with a giant toothbrush. When it was her turn she loved riding in the chair, was very still for "pictures," and only got timid for a minute when she saw that the hygienist wanted to put her little mirror in her mouth.

When we got home Emma spent the afternoon playing "dentist" with me. I lay down and she told me to "open wide" while she turned all sorts of random toys into I don't know what dentist instrument that she would put in my mouth.

Climbing

Kaylie is into climbing lately. Today she climbed into the dishwasher and has attempted to get into the tub and toilet several times.

Her car seat mounts on a swing base, which was great and convenient when she was a newborn. We don't use it much anymore except as a place to keep her seat. Today I walked into her room to find her crazily rocking away in it. She stopped as soon as I got the camera, but you get the idea. (note: I bumped the rocking chair, it is not psychotically rocking itself)

Emma was always too timid to try these feats, I've never had to worry about her. I think I'm going to have my hands full with Kaylie.

Simple Pleasures

Who would say no to cookie dough?
